HEROES Act

Hundreds of union activists and community allies from Houston and across the Gulf Coast rallied today in the Workers First Caravan for Racial and Economic Justice, further amplifying calls for bold policies to confront the three crises facing America: a public health pandemic, an economic free fall and long-standing structural racism.

The Houston Caravan, one of more than 600 that took place across the country today, was organized to remind John Cornyn, Ted Cruz and the rest of the US Senate of the urgent need to take immediate action to pass America’s Five Economic Essentials and real policing reforms.

“This is a moment that demands of us compassion and common sense; any meaningful relief and recovery will require a prioritization of the workers and their families who undergird the stability and prosperity of this nation. So today the labor movement in one voice calls upon U.S. Senators to do what is right for our health, our economy and our country: Pass the HEROES Act now!”
— Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation Executive Director Hany Khalil

An estimated 150 cars took part in the socially-distanced action today on a route that passed the Houston offices of both Senators, along with protestors at both sites.

During the caravan, activists also delivered a letter signed by 41 Gulf Coast organizations calling for action to both Senators’ Houston offices.
