Part-Time Social Media Manager

The Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO unites 60,000 members of 95 unions to advocate for a living wage, quality benefits, respect on the job, and protections for all working people on the Gulf Coast. The Social Media Manager will support digital outreach programs that engage affiliated unions, union members, and labor friendly voters in Houston area counties in the federation’s electoral, legislative, and organizing campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media Management

Work with Communications Director to:

  • Maintain the TGCALF content calendar for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms, ensuring content is timely, on message, and supports priority campaigns. Keep these channels up to date with fresh, relevant content on our campaigns and related news;

  • Draft, edit and send newsletter and emails;

  • Design social media graphics as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Is committed to changing the future of Texas by expanding the power of working families, particularly historically marginalized communities;

  • Demonstrates experience leading digital outreach operations for unions, community organizations, or political campaigns;

  • Is skilled in targeting paid digital outreach to specific universes;

  • Understands the different functions, best practices, and subcultures on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications, basic graphic design, and digital communication tools;

  • Is able to plan, prioritize, and complete several projects on time simultaneously;

  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Is familiar with the structures and culture of the labor movement;

  • Has some Spanish language skills; bilingual English/Spanish skills is a plus.

COMPENSATION

This is a contract position with a maximum monthly compensation of $1,000 for up to 10 hours of work per week.
